REDWOOD EMPIRE FOOD BANK - Ending Hunger in Our Community
Please join Summit State Bank in supporting the Redwood Empire Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in Sonoma County.
The REFB provides food to over 60,000 people every month in every neighborhood throughout the county, including 25,000 children, working families, seniors, disabled, homeless, temporarily unemployed and all those in need.
11 million pounds of food is distributed annually, the equivalent of 8.6 million meals.
Through 11 of its own programs and a network of 133 charitable agencies, the REFB distributes food to pantries, emergency shelters, dining rooms, soup kitchens, childcare centers, youth programs, group homes, disaster relief agencies, and programs for seniors and at-risk youth.
The REFB has the following goals to meet the increasing demand for food:
- Provide food for 9.2 million meals – an increase of over 600,000 meals from last year.
- Distribute 5.4 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables – a vital food source that few low-income people can afford.
The REFB received the highest rating – Four Stars – from Charity Navigator, America’s premier independent charity evaluator. The rating means that 96.5% of REFB’s resources go directly to programs that feed the hungry.
